Thomas Long Serves as Bond Counsel in $6.98 Million PENNVEST Financing
HARRISBURG, Pa. — February 11, 2010 — Thomas, Long, Niesen & Kennard is pleased to announce the firm’s recent settlement, as bond counsel, for the Newport Borough Water Authority’s (Perry County, Pennsylvania) $6,979,958 financing with the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST). The financing consists of the issuance of a $436,856 guaranteed promissory note by the Authority to PENNVEST and the award of a $6,543,102 grant from PENNVEST to the Authority in conjunction with funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Proceeds from the financing will be used for the Authority’s river filtration and line replacement project, which involves the construction of a 500,000 gallon-per-day water intake from the Juniata River as well as a new filtration system and the replacement of more than two miles of distribution lines in order to establish a reliable source of drinking water and reduce water losses from leaks.
